SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team (10-5) continued its bad luck with the weather as rain cancelled San Diego Classic action Sunday for the third straight day.
Medium to heavy showers Sunday morning prevented the tarp from being pulled, and more intermittent showers were forecast, so Fresno State's rescheduled games vs. Ole Miss and Lehigh at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. were cancelled, as was every other game on the revised final day docket.
On previous days, the 'Dogs failed to play any of their originally scheduled games on Friday vs. UIC and BYU and on Saturday vs. Ole Miss and No. 2 Tennessee.
The only action in the tourney came on Thursday evening. BYU (7-10) opened with a 6-3 win over No. 2 Tennessee (14-1), thanks to a three-run seventh inning. The Cougars also lost to San Diego State, 2-0, on Thursday, while No. 2 UT topped SDSU, 3-1, and Grand Canyon edged San Diego, 3-1.
Looking ahead, the 'Dogs next point towards their fifth early season tournament of the year - the Judi Garman Classic, March 6-9, at Cal State Fullerton.
The 'Dogs first face Long Beach State on Thursday at 8 p.m., CS Fullerton on Friday at 8 p.m., Houston on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., and No. 11 Nebraska at 9 a.m. and No. 3 Washington at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
