Bulldogs Head North for Capital Classic

By Theresa Kurtz FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State softball travels north for the Capital Classic hosted by Sacramento State March 15-17. The Bulldogs play four games in three days facing the Hornets, Kansas, Texas State and St. Mary's. Fresno State Leading the Nation Freshmen Pitchers Shine at Fresno State Classic On the Road Again Scouting the Capital Classic Texas State: Fresno State owns a 3-1 record over Texas State. The Bulldogs won the last meeting 8-1 in 2005. The Bobcats have an overall mark of 3-19. Kellie Baker is hitting a team best .316 with two doubles and four RBI. Ashley Wright is 3-7 in the circle with 20 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.75 in 70.2 innings of work. Sacramento State: The Bulldogs have an all-time record of 31-10 over Sacramento State. The Hornets are 12-6 in 2013 and 1-2 at home. Paige Martin is hitting .383 after 18 starts. She has three doubles, two triples and eight RBI on the year. In the circle, Caitlin Brooks is 7-1 in eight starts and has a 1.35 ERA and struck out 51. St. Mary's: The Bulldogs face St. Mary's for the third time this season. In the first meeting, freshman Jill Compton recorded her first career no-hitter as the `Dogs won 4-0 and in the second meeting the Bulldogs defeated the Gaels 8-0 in six innings. Fresno State is 15-1 all-time against the Gaels and have won three straight. SMC is 4-14 on the year and 2-10 on the road. Megan Smith is hitting .327 in 18 games started. She has three doubles, a home run and five RBI. In the circle, Lujane Mussadi is 3-5 with an ERA of 2.28.
