FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State softball heads back to San Diego State for a key three-game series against the Aztecs. The Bulldogs are half of a game behind the MW leaders San Diego State and Colorado State. It is the final Mountain West road trip for the Bulldogs.All three games can be followed on GameTracker.
About San Diego State
The Fresno State vs. San Diego State series began in 1981 with the Aztecs winning 4-1. The `Dogs won a 54-9 record against the Rams. The last meeting was in 2012 and the `Dogs won 4-1. The Bulldogs have won the last three games against the Aztecs.
Scouting the Aztecs
San Diego State is 28-16 and has a Mountain West record of 6-3. The Aztecs are tied for first place with Colorado State. SDSU is 13-4 at home in 2013. The Aztecs are hitting .298 as a team with five starters hitting .300 or better. Lorena Bauer leads the team with a .418 average. She has 15 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs and 39 RBI. Ace Rebecca Arbino is 16-10 in the circle with 2.02 ERA and 162 strikeouts.
Fresno State Leading the Nation
Sophomore Brenna Moss is tied for first in the nation in triples with seven. She is third in the country in triples per game with 0.16. The outfielder is also 41st in stolen bases per game with 0.53. Sophomore Maria Sio has 0.37 sacrifice hits per game and is third in the nation. As a team, the Bulldogs are 15th in the country in triples per game with 0.30 and have the 32nd best fielding percentage (.969).
Bulldogs Score First
The Bulldogs plan in 2013 is to be aggressive on offense and the `Dogs are doing just that. Fresno State has outscored its opponents 45-26 in the first inning. The Bulldogs are 16-6 when scoring first and 15-5 when scoring in the first inning.
On the Road Again
Fresno State ends its two week road trip at San Diego State April 26-28. The Bulldogs play 10 games on the road in the month of February, 11 in March and a total of 33 away from Bulldog Diamond in 2013. The `Dogs are 4-7 on the road and 7-10 in neutral territory this season.
Moss Swiping Extra Bases
Sophomore Brenna Moss leads the team and the Mountain West in stolen bases. The outfielder has a total of 23 stolen bases, including tying her career-high of two stolen bases in a single game against Sacramento State. Her fifth stolen base of the season, allowed the game-winning run to score against Sacramento State. She needs five more stolen bases to set a new single season record.
