`Dogs Win 10th WAC Title

    May 2, 2009

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Fresno State Bulldogs did their job by sweeping the doubleheader vs. Utah State on Friday and got some help from San Jose State on Saturday as the Spartans defeated Nevada 1-0 in 10 innings as the `Dogs clinched their 10th WAC Title and first since 2006.

"This is awesome," said head coach Margie Wright. "I'm so proud of the players because this was a struggle early on. It was nice to get some help. You don't like to rely on others but sometimes that's how it works. We are looking forward to hosting the tournament."

Fresno State will be the No. 1 seed in the WAC Tournament at Bulldog Diamond beginning May 6 in the seven-team double-elimination bracket. Fresno State earns a bye in the first round and won't play until Thursday at 10 a.m.

The `Dogs will play the winner of No. 6 San Jose State vs. No. 7 Boise State, a game that will be played on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Nevada is the No. 2 seed and New Mexico State is No. 5. The three and four seeds are still up in the air between Louisiana Tech and Hawai'i.
