FRESNO, Calif. -Fresno State senior outfielder Diane Runge has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District 8 First-Team, as selected and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Friday.
"We are really proud of Diane and all her hard work both in the classroom and on the field," said head coach Trisha Ford. "This award is a great testament to all the work she has put forth with school and softball. It is great to see her get the recognition she deserves after spending countless hours studying and practicing. We are excited to see what she does next."
It is the first time Runge, a native of Clovis, Calif., has earned the award, but second straight year a Bulldog Softball players has been named to the academic all-district team. Runge is now eligible for Academic All-American honors.
The senior, who is set to play her final games at Bulldog Diamond this weekend, is graduating this spring with a degree in elementary education. Runge has started every game during the 2013 campaign, while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Runge is hitting .315 with 45 hits including, four doubles, two triples and a home run, which was her first career long ball. She has nine RBI, 13 walks and nine stolen bases.
