    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State junior third baseman Vonnie Martin and freshman right-hander Jill Compton have been named Mountain West Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games through May 5. This is the second career MW weekly award for both Martin and Compton.

    Martin batted .625 (5-for-8) in three starts as Fresno State swept New Mexico over the weekend to move into second place in the Conference standings. The Plano, Texas, product recorded at least one hit and one RBI in each of the three contests, pushing her hitting streak to 13 games.

    She finished the weekend with four RBI, one run scored and one walk while producing slugging and on-base percentages of .625 and .600, respectively. In Friday's 3-0 win, Martin went 2-for-3 at the plate, hitting an RBI single in her first at-bat to give the Bulldogs their first run of the game. She also went 2-for-3 on Saturday, driving in the team's only two runs with a third-inning single as the Bulldogs held on for the 2-1 victory.

    On Sunday, she went 1-for-2, driving in one run on a sacrifice fly and scoring another as Fresno State recorded its second shutout of the weekend, 4-0. On the defensive side of the ball, Martin was perfect in five fielding attempts, registering two putouts and three assists from her third-base position.

    Compton extended her streak of scoreless innings to 21 by tossing two complete-game shutouts while compiling a 2-0 record and 0.00 ERA as the Bulldogs completed the three-game series sweep of the Lobos. The Oceano, Calif., native totaled 22 strikeouts over the weekend, including a career-high 12 in her second appearance, while surrendering just three hits, four walks and no runs in 14 innings of work.

    On Friday, Compton threw a one-hit gem while fanning 10 batters and walking three en route to the 3-0 victory. In Saturday's 4-0 triumph, she retired 12 in a row from the second through the fifth innings while scattering two hits and one walk.
