Aug. 26, 2008
FRESNO, Calif. - Kaitlin Griffin, Jody Badorine, Michelle Moses and Mackenzie Oakes signed National Letter of Intents to attend Fresno State and play softball for head Coach Margie Wright in the 2009 season. These four, along with local talents Brittnee Rodgers and Angelica Adam will join a team that returns eight starters from 2008 that posted a 54-13 record, the best for a Fresno State team in nine years. Coach Wright is known for recruiting local talent as eight of the members on the 2008 team were from the Fresno/Clovis area. Once again Coach Wright went local with this class as she pulled Badorine from Madera, Calif. In four years at Madera High School, Badorine hit .367 with 85 runs, 143 hits and a .919 fielding percentage. She is her high school's career record holder for batting average and total hits and ranks third for runs scored. In 2006, she became the first female to be named the Fresno Grizzlies Player of the Year. She was a three-time All-TRAC first team and Fresno Bee all-star selection. With a perfect 4.0 GPA, Badorine was also a scholar-athlete and Valedictorian of her class. Another local talent hails from Clovis West. Rodgers hit .349 with a slugging percentage of .532. She scored 21 runs and had 93 assists at shortstop. She was a first-team ALL-TRAC member and named to the Fresno Bee first-team. She set a school record with a 16-game hitting streak as she was the team MVP along with being named to the all-city and all-valley teams. Academically, Rodgers was along on the honor roll in 2007-08. Adam also hails from local Bullard High School where she tied the school record for most RBI's in one game last season. She was a first team all-league selection her junior and senior seasons and named to the second team All-Valley in 2008. Adam was also the MVP of the City/County All-Star her senior year. Academically, she was a Principal Honor in 2005, 2006 and 2008. Oakes joins the program from Stockdale High School in Bakersfield, Calif., with endless honors. Batting and pitching, Oakes was the first team all-league MVP three out of her four years in high school, the high school team MVP, a first team all-area selection and all-state selection all four years. In 2005, Oakes was named the Cal-Hi All-State Freshman Player of the Year. Her senior season, Oakes had a 0.29 ERA with 278 strikeouts and a 19-8 record in the circle. She also led the team at the plate, batting .388 with five home runs and 20 RBI's.
Moses hails from Paso Robles High School. The pitcher struck out 204 batters on the season and posted a 0.40 ERA while batting .431 with 11 home runs. She was the 2005 offensive MVP, won the 2006 coaches award and MVP while being named all-league. Moses won the golden bat award in 2006 and 2007. Also an outstanding volleyball player, Moses was the 2007 MVP and was the two-time league MVP in 2007 and 2008 while being named the 2008 female athlete of the year. From Northport, Ala, and hailing from Tuscaloosa County High School, Griffin led TCHS to its second state championship in school history her senior year. Starting at shortstop, Griffin hit .340 on the year and .450 in the postseason. She was an All-State honorable mention honoree and named the team captain and MVP. Her summer team was also very impressive as the Birmingham Vipers-Jackson won three tournaments with Griffin at starting catcher.
