Fresno State Heads To WAC Championships

The Fresno State swimming and diving team (4-6) arrived in San Antonio, Texas to compete in the WAC Championships, February 22-25, 2012.

Seniors Heidi Gjoen, Jordan Morillo and Dede Torres will be recognized for their four years of performance in the Fresno State swimming and diving program.

Fresno State:

2011-12 (Senior): One of three seniors who have been with Coach Fleck since the program was reinstated in 2008 ... competed in the 50 Backstroke at the USD Beach Cup and recorded her season best time with a 31.29 ... at WAC Championships recorded a season best time in the 100 Backstroke, 1:01.62, and in the 200 Backstroke with a 2:10.68.

2010-11 (Junior): Competed in multiple events for the Bulldogs...swam a season-best in the 100-yard backstroke against Nevada with a time of 1:02.88...strongest swim of the season in the 200-yard backstroke came at the Arena Invitational with a time of the 100-yard butterfly clocked a time of 1:01.35 against Idaho...placed fourth against the Vandals...swam the 200-yard individual medley at WAC Championships with a season-best time of 2:11.85.

2009-10 (Sophomore): Established herself as a multiple event weapon posting competitive times in the butterfly, individual medley and backstroke events ... boasted the top time by a Bulldog in the 400 individual medley event with a career best time of 4:38.83 at the WAC Championships ... swam to a top three finish in the 200 backstroke against Cal State Bakersfield with a time of 2:13.15 and the 200 IM (2:20.95) against Nevada ... finished sixth out of 21 swimmers in the 200 I.M. at the Beach Cup (2:13.66) ... swam Bulldog top three times in the 200 I.M. (2:11.67), 100 butterfly (1:01.66) and the 200 backstroke events (2:10.63) ... voted most inspirational swimmer.

2008-09 (Freshman): Started the season strong with an event win the 200 IM against rival San Jose State ... continued to improve upon her times at the Washington State Invitational in the 100 breaststroke and led the Bulldogs in the 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly and the 200 freestyle ... swam a first place finish and lifetime best time in the 200 breaststroke against San Diego State ... earned lifetime best times in the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke against rival San Jose State ... breaststroker on 800 medley relay team that improved time 23 seconds at WAC Championships ... swam a top time in the 200 freestyle relay at WAC Championships ... led the `Dogs in the 200 butterfly event in time in 2009.

Lindsay High School: Four year varsity letterwinner in swimming ... named team captain ...was a four-time CIF Valley finalist in three event ... earned team MVP honors twice ...was a two year letterwinner in basketball

Personal: Born June 24, 1990 ... parents are Letty and Tim ... has one brother, Justin ... favorite athlete is Kobe Bryant ... her biggest athletic thrill is competition ... chose Fresno State because it is close to home.
