Swimming Finishes in Seventh and Fifth at the UC Irvine Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. - The Fresno State swimming team competed at the UC Irvine Daktronics Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 5, and finished with six top finishes of the 24 events. The Bulldogs combined for a seventh place finish with 76 points in the individual events and a fifth place finish in the distance events with 72 points. Twelve teams competed alongside Fresno State, among them were Colorado State, San Diego State, Wyoming and Nevada. Leading the way for the 'Dogs was senior Jesie Lewis with two top ten finishes. She started the day with a fifth place capture in the 50 free when she clocked in at 24.62. Her second event was the 100 free, in which she landed sixth with a time of 53.59. Freshman Carolyn Wigginton topped all performances with her third place time of 59.83 in the 100 backstroke. She also finished in 10th place in the 200 back with when she clocked 2:11.41. Other Bulldogs finished well with top times of their own. Freshman Katie Haney inked sixth in the 1650 free at 18:13.61 and junior Jessica Klenner swam to a tenth place finish in the 200 butterfly in 2:13.19. Fresno State swimming and diving will compete at two meets this weekend, beginning with the University of San Diego in San Diego, Calif., on Friday, Jan. 11. The team returns to UC Irvine on Saturday, Jan. 12, with a tri-meet against UC Irvine and San Diego State.
