Swimming and Diving Splits Double-Dual Meet Versus San Diego State and UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - Fresno State swimming and diving wrapped up its weekend schedule with a double-dual meet versus San Diego State and host UC Irvine, in Irvine, Calif., Saturday, Jan.12. The Bulldogs defeated UC Irvine, 188-112, but fell to San Diego State, 158-140. San Diego State also defeated UC Irvine 175-125. Collectively, the Bulldogs captured first place six times of the 16 scheduled events. Leading the way for the 'Dogs was freshman diver Ashleigh Raley, who won both the 1-meter (248.77) and the 3-meter (264.97). Individually, five Bulldogs finished in the top three spots, in two events. Of those, senior Jesie Lewis finished first in the 100 free at 52.13 and also finished second in the 50 free 24.26. Others who finished in first place were, freshman Melissa Johnson in the 200 free at 54.37 and sophomore Kristi Collins in the 200 IM at 2:10.78. The 200 free relay quad of Johnson, freshman Minja Mickelson, freshman Jennifer Palmberg and Lewis, timed a first place finish of 1:38.34.
The Bulldogs' diving squad will next compete at the UCLA Diving Invitational this weekend, Jan. 18-19, in Los Angeles. The swimming team has the weekend off to prepare for their final home meet of the season Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Central Unified Aquatics Complex.
