"I thought we had some really good swims, we just couldn't' make up enough ground today to beat out the other teams," said assistant swimming coach Pat Ota. "The divers did awesome today going one, two and three in the 1-meter dive. They really helped bring more points to our team total."
Junior Hannah Prigge picked up her second win of the weekend in the 1-meter dive with a score of 285.10. Stacey Luke came in second with a 268.85 and freshman Lacie Ruth rounded out the third place spot with a score of 216.15. Both Prigge and Ruth had lifetime best scores for this board. Over the two days the divers contributed an impressive 81 points to the final team score.
"Alex [Madsen] had another big day winning both her races and was also a big addition on our relay teams," said Ota. "She helped contribute a lot of points to our team today and this weekend."
Alex Madsen continued to bring outstanding races to the Beach Cup adding two more individual wins to her weekend. They came in the 100 and 200 backstrokes with times of 57.88 and 2:05.48, respectively. Yoho added another win to her weekend as well coming in the 100 freestyle race with a time of 51.57.
Sophomore Courtney Sheehan had a great race in the 1650 freestyle placing second with a 17:39.01. Fellow classmate, Lucy Titchin, also finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.48 and Brittany Buna finished third in the 400 IM clocking in at 4:32.53.
The Fresno State 400 free relay team (Madsen, Titchin, Leah Hatayama, Yoho) swam a quick race of 3:32.26 good for a second place finish.
"Overall we had a lot of solid swims today and although we didn't finish where we wanted to we saw a lot of good things," said Ota. "We have two meets left before the championships so we have some things we are going to focus on and improve on."
Next up, the Bulldogs host UC Davis on Saturday, Jan. 26 at noon as they honor their six seniors for senior day.
