Prigge, Yoho Take First On Day 1

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs completed the first day of competition at The USD Beach Cup in San Diego, Calif. finishing second out of the four teams through the first six events. The University of San Diego (USD) ranks first (107), Fresno State is in second (88), Loyola Marymount (LMU) ranks third (72) and Pepperdine is sitting in fourth place (26) after the first session of competition.
"Hannah and Dani did a great job for us today and our medley teams were really good," said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "We are in a solid second place and we are ready to make the turnaround tomorrow morning and really give USD a run for its money."
The day started with sophomore Hannah Prigge taking first in the 3-meter dive with a leading score of 274.80, finishing nearly 50 points higher than the second place diver.
Junior Dani Yoho had a speedy race in the 50 Yard Free coming in first (24.11) out of 23 swimmers and was the second Bulldog on the day to win an event.
The 200 Yard Medley Relay was the next event where Fresno State's team (Alex Madsen, Britney Vogel, Rayanne Nguyen, Dani Yoho) took second timing in at 1:49.29. Freshman Courtney Sheehan was the top Bulldog finisher in the 500 Yard Free (5:11.59) and Brittany Buna was the fastest 'Dog in the 200 Yard IM (2:13.42).
Day 1 of The USD Beach Cup concluded with the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, an event the Bulldogs have only competed in a couple times this season. The team (Lucy Titchin, Sheehan, Brooke Fuller, Heidi Gjoen) had a solid race clocking in at 8.00.09. The relay team finished third out of the eight teams competing in that event.
The Fresno State swimmers and divers will continue the second and final session of The USD Beach Cup tomorrow morning starting at 10 a.m.
