FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State swimming and diving team had a solid performance in the second day of the WAC Championships with five Bulldogs achieving season best times along with a season best effort in the 200 freestyle relay putting the `Dogs in ninth place overall with two days remaining to decide the Championship.
Freshman Dani Yoho led the `Dogs in day two with a seventh place finish in the 50 freestyle. She posted a finals time of 23.98 in the event, good enough to add 12 championship points to the `Dogs meet total.
"It was exciting to watch Dani in the finals today," said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "She had a strong swim and got us some extra points."
Senior Rebecca Strmiska and freshman Rayanne Nguyen had lifetime best performances in the 500 freestyle preliminary race with Strmiska dropping six seconds off of her previous best and Nguyen knocking a couple of tenths of a second off of hers.
"I was very proud of Rayanne and Rebecca today," said Fleck. "They did a great job and they have continuously swam faster all season."
The Fresno State 200 free relay team finished in ninth place with a season best time of 1:36.99, a full second faster than the teams previous best effort.
"Our relay team swam really well," said Fleck. "Everyone's split times were fast and they were really competitive."
Senior Mary Tess Taylor added her top performance of the season in the 200 IM posting a best time that surpassed her previous effort by nearly two second. The Bulldogs missed freshman Britney Vogel as she had to sit out the days events due to illness but expect to have her back in the pool tomorrow morning.
"Overall today was a good day for us," said Fleck. "Tomorrow we have the potential to have a finalist in each event and move up in the standings. I think were going to get better and better as we go along here."
