'Dogs Successful On Day One

FRESNO, Calif. - On the first day of the Arena Invitational, the Bulldogs made a big splash, breaking season best times, career best times and a new school record by Dani Yoho in the 50 Yard Free.
"We had a really solid day of swimming today and are showing a lot of improvement," said Fleck. "We are competing against some of the top teams in the nation and we are swimming hard. I am very proud of the swimmers."
The Bulldogs had swimmers qualify for the finals in three out of the five events today, and set many new records in doing so.
"In the 400 Medley, Heidi led out with a 56,91 which is her best time all season and got the relay off to a great start," said Fleck. "Dani did great in the 50 Free breaking the school record and we are very excited."
There were five events swam today on day one of the Arena Invitational: 200 Freestyle Relay, 500 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley, 50 Freestyle, and 400 Medley Relay.
"We had some good swims this morning," said head swimming coach Jeanne Fleck. "We went season best times in almost every event."
In the finals Yoho swam in at 23.04 shaving one hundredth of a second off her previous school record set last season which was 23.05. The 200 Freestyle Relay team (Yoho, Titchin, Fuller, Torres) broke their season record by more than two seconds with a 1:36.19.
The prelims started at 11 a.m. where freshman Courtney Sheehan shaved an impressive four seconds off her seed time in the 500 Yard Freestyle, recording a new season best time of 5:00.42.
Sophomore Michelle Dockendorf was the top finisher for Fresno State in the 200 IM prelims and swam a lifetime best of 2:08.74, dusting off one and a half seconds off her previous career best. Junior Sarah Pino also set a new career best time with a 2:10.72 in the 200 IM.
"There is some real stiff competition here and everyone is very competitive, so it is great experience for us," said Fleck. "Each year we are getting better and faster and we really swam well today."
The Bulldogs are competing against Stanford and Cal who are in the top five ranked teams in the nation and other various teams that competed in the NCAA Team National Championships last season. There are five Pac-12 teams at the meet along with many other elite Division 1 programs.
Friday will be day two of the Arena Invitational where the Bulldogs will compete in the 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke and the 800 Freestyle Relay.
