LOS ANGELES -- Fresno State swimmers enjoyed a successful first day at the Arena Invitational at East Los Angeles College. Several athletes set new lifetime best times in the fast pool in Southern California.

The 200 Free Relay team of Leah Hatayama, Brooke Fuller, Lucy Titchin and Frida Börnfors had the best finish of the finals, taking sixth with a time of 1:34.63.

"Leah led off and was really good and they all did a really nice job," head coach Jeanne Fleck said.

In the 500 Free, Titchin and Kelly Simmons each swam new lifetime bests. Titchin posted a 4:58.86 to finish 13th overall. Simmons' best time came in the preliminary round when she broke the 5:02 mark, but she swam a 5:03 in the finals at night to finish 14th.

Hatayama set a new lifetime best in the 50 Free with a time of 23.62. Her time was good enough to win the Bonus Final and finished 17th overall. In the 200 IM, senior Michelle Dockendorf swam a 2:05.76 to finish in 10th.

The Bulldogs' 400 Medley Relay team finished in 8th with a time of 3:51.52. It was a relay team of Hatayama, Esme Gullick, Tarryn Rennie and Hailee Baldwin.

"All in all we just had a really solid night," Fleck said. "We are just going to get better every session as we go."
