LOS ANGELES - The Fresno State swimmers sit just 23.5 points outside of fourth place after a strong second day at the Arena Invitational where freshman Esme Gullick set a new school record in the 400 IM on Friday.
Gullick clocked in at 4:23.73 to tie for second in the finals of the 400 IM to set a new all-time Bulldog record in the event.
"Esme had a great swim today, tied for second, and it was a great evening all around," an encouraged head coach Jeanne Fleck said. "It was a really good night and we are right in the hunt for fourth place. The goal is to get to fourth."
The Bulldogs currently sit in seventh place with 382.5 points, slightly behind Loyola Marymount (389), Pacific (395.5) and Cal Poly (406), which Fresno State has its eyes on. San Diego State (796 points) and San Jose State (746) sit in first and second place after the second day of the three-day event.

The Bulldogs look to make a leap on Saturday in the final day of the Arena Invitational.
"We got a lot of work left to do, but we're encouraged and the girls are excited to get back in the pool," Fleck said.
