FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs will dive off the blocks at CSU Bakersfield Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 to start the first double-dual meet of the New Year. Fresno State will face CSUB and UNLV, a Mountain West opponent. The meet will start at noon in the Hillman Aquatics Complex.
A Look At The Competition
CSU Bakersfield: The Roadrunners are 3-0 on the season in dual meets, defeating Seattle University (202-86), University of the Pacific (156-132) and Fresno Pacific (171-100). The Runners finished 12th at the Arena Invitational out of 17 teams.
UNLV: The Rebels are 1-4 on the season and most recently finished fourth at the Mizzou Invite out of nine teams.
Prigge Earns Second MW Honor
Junior diver Hannah Prigge, who hails from Rocklin, Calif., won both springboard events in the Bulldogs' tight loss to San Diego State, 133-128, on Dec. 1. Prigge scored an NCAA qualifying mark of 284.40 to win the 1-meter springboard and a 315.30 on the 3-meter board, also an NCAA qualifying mark. Both scores rank as the third-highest recorded at the Aztec Aquaplex. Prigge currently ranks eighth in the Mountain West with her 1-meter season best score of 284.40. In the 3-meter she ranks seventh with her score of 315.30 and Prigge still holds the top score in the Mountain West for the platform dive with a 243.75.
'Dogs Fall To San Diego State
The Bulldogs challenged the Aztecs in a close meet, but fell to SDSU 133-128 in the last dual-meet of 2012 in San Diego. Dani Yoho stayed undefeated in the 50 free for dual-meets winning the race in a time of 23.56 and junior diver Hannah Prigge won both the 1- and 3-meter dive. Alex Madsen swam a fast 50 back clocking in at 27.69 less than seven-tenths of a second behind the first place finisher and freshman Dana Jones won the 50 yard fly with a time of 27.34 pulling ahead in a close race.
Madsen Named Sysco Student-Athlete of the Week
Sophomore swimmer Alex Madsen helped lead the `Dogs to a seventh place finish out of 15 teams at the Phill Hansel Invite in Houston, Texas from Nov. 15-17, 2012. Madsen broke the Fresno State school record in the 200 IM (2:04.80) twice in one day. She did it once in the preliminary race (2:04.67) and then again in the final race (2:04.33). She also swam a lifetime best time in the 100 backstroke with a 55.83 and placed 10th in the finals out of over 40 swimmers.
