FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State swimming and diving returns to the pool tomorrow, January 17 and Saturday, January 18 for the Beach Cup at the Burns Aquatic Center on the campus of Loyola Marymount. The diving portion of the competition will take place on Friday night at El Camino College in Torrance.
The Bulldogs will compete against the host Lions, as well as Pepperdine and San Diego in the invitational style meet.
"We've never won this meet, but it a really fun meet and it's a great meet for us," Fresno State head coach Jeanne Fleck said. "The girls will get to mock what they do in San Antonio for the conference championships, just in a shorter period of time."
This meet will serve as the Bulldogs' last meet that will be set up somewhat like what they will see at the Mountain West Championships in February. Fresno State swimmers will suit up in their championship suits to get a feel for them and look to post good times in their events.
Senior diver Hannah Prigge, the Mountain West leader in the 1-Meter Springboard and the Platform, is coming off a solid performance last weekend at the UCLA Diving Invitational. She finished eighth in the 1-Meter, third in the 3-Meter and was in second on the Platform after the preliminaries before having to scratch the finals.
"The diving will be held at an indoor facility, which is really nice because it's a chance for our girls to dive indoors like they will at conference in San Antonio," Fleck said. "It is also nice because our whole team will get the chance to sit and watch diving after we swim in the afternoon on Friday."
