The Fresno State swimming and diving team (4-5) will travel to San Diego this weekend to compete in the USD Beach Cup.

FRESNO, Calif. -
The Fresno State swimmers and divers will head down to San Diego, Calif. to compete
against Pepperdine, the University of San Diego, and Loyola Marymount in the USD
Beach Cup this Saturday, Jan. 20-21. This will be the Bulldogs' first meeting with each of the three schools this season. Fresno State (4-5) had a great winter training period and went 2-1 on its first home triple-dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 14.
A Look At The Competition:
University of San Diego (USD): The Toreros are 0-3-1 on the season with a tie against UC San Diego.
Loyola Marymount (LMU): The Lions are 1-2 on the season with a win against USD.
Pepperdine: The Waves most recently placed second in the Cal Poly Mustang Invite.
Bulldogs Explosive Off The Blocks
The Bulldogs were explosive off the blocks at the Fresno State Aquatics Center downing Cal State East Bay 233-47 as well as Cal State Bakersfield 206-87. The `Dogs battled hard the whole meet against the Aztecs, but came in short falling 174.5-114.5. Junior Dani Yoho swam the 50 Yard Free in a 23.62 good for a first place finish in the event. Sophomore Brittany Buna also had a first place finish in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:12.35 and Michelle Dockendorf swam in right behind for a second place time of 2:13.28.
Luke Sets Career Best, Nguyen Wins Two
In the final home match of 2011, the 'Dogs fell to the Idaho Vandals 165-135 at the Fresno State Aquatics Center, despite great performances by juniors Stacey Luke and Rayanne Nguyen. For the second time this season, Luke (Kenmore, Wash.) set a new career best dive in the 1 meter event scoring a 278.78. She set a new pool record and broke her previous record by more than three points. Nguyen, a junior from Santa Barbara, Calif., won the 100 Butterfly with a speedy time of 59.60 and won the 200 Butterfly with a 2:08.66.
Yoho Gains Great Experience
Fresno State's Dani Yoho competed at the AT&T Winter Nationals in Atlanta, Ga. and
raced against some of the fastest swimmers in the world. Yoho swam a 27.04 in the 50
Meter Freestyle and finished 83rd out of 110 swimmers. Overall there were more than
1,000 athletes at the AT&T Winter Nationals with almost 650 of them being females.
Two School Records Set At Arena Invitational
Junior Dani Yoho and sophomore Brittany Buna each broke a Fresno State school record
at the Arena Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. Yoho swam a 23.04 in the 50 Free slashing
one hundredth of a second off her previous school record set last season. Buna set a
new school record in the 400 IM swimming in at 4:24.73 clipped the previous-top mark
of 4:25.27. The Bulldogs set season best times every event and finished fourteenth out
of 21 teams in a very competitive setting.
Sheehan Named Verizon WAC Swimmer Of The Week
Fresno State's Courtney Sheehan was named the Verizon WAC Swimmer of the week,
respectively, for Oct. 31-Nov. 6. Her times in the 1650 and 500 were the fastest times
recorded in the WAC this season. Sheehan, a freshman from Waukesha, Wis.( Waukesha
South HS), delivered a dynamic performance, winning the 1650-yard freestyle and 500-
yard freestyle, and finishing a close third in the 200-yard freestyle, as the 'Dogs went 1-1
in a double-dual meet at the University of the Pacific.
"We Are Your Team!" - The Fresno State swimming and diving team will return home on Saturday, Feb. 4 to swim against WAC rival San Jose State. The Bulldogs will also recognize three seniors for Senior Day.
