FRESNO, Calif. - Head swimming and diving coach Jeanne Fleck along with her coaching staff and entire team hosted the program's first ever Splash Dinner last Saturday, April 20. This was the program's first fundraising event, and in Fleck's eyes it was definitely a success.
"We had a wonderful turn out for our first ever Splash Dinner and raised over $5,000 for our swimming and diving program," said Fleck. "We are so lucky to have such a great venue to be able to host this party. We are also so very lucky to have great parents who donated their time and gifts for such things as the silent auction and raffle."
The Splash Dinner was Luau themed and the Aquatics Center was decorated with bright colors, inflatable palm trees, and Hawaiian flowers everywhere. Each guest was given a lei at the entrance to finish off each person's attire. The tables had plastic sand buckets with drinks and plastic pineapple bowls with trail mix. The dinner served included: grilled chicken, pulled pork with pineapple, rice pilaf, fruit salad and regular salad.
"We had over 150 people for a sit down dinner," said Fleck. "I was really nervous as this was the biggest dinner party I have ever thrown, but I am very pleased with how it turned out."
There was a silent auction with fabulous items as well as raffle items that were a big hit.
"Our assistant coaches, Patrick Ota and Taryn Patrick, led the auction for desert and the desert auction raised almost $1,000 itself," said Fleck. "Pat may even have another career options as an auctioneer because he did that well."
This first ever Splash Dinner was a great success for the program and they raised the necessary funds to help immediately increase performances in the pool and off the board.
"With the money we raised we will now be able to purchase two items the program has really needed," said Fleck. "First we are going to buy an outside TV. We will be able to record our divers and they will be given immediate feedback, viewing the dive they just performed. We are also going to purchase another power tower that will really help with resistance training. We currently have one, and you can only have two swimmers using it at once. Now with another tower, we can have four swimmers going at once and our practices can be more efficient."
