FRESNO, Calif. - Mary Tess Taylor (Granite Bay, Calif.) and Kelli Sargent (Modesto, Calif.) are the two newest additions to the women's swimming and diving team. These two junior college transfers will bring depth and leadership to the new Bulldog program.

Taylor joins the program after spending the last two seasons at Sierra College in Rocklin, Calif. At the Community College state meet, Taylor finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a personal best time of 1:08.80. Taylor also finished 10th in the 50 breaststroke as her team took second for the fourth-straight year.

In 2007, Taylor was named most improved on the team and earned All-American honors, which is the top 16 in the nation, in all of her events, the 50 and 100 breaststroke, the 50 fly and the 200 free relay.

"I am very excited for Mary Tess to join the team," said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "She has a ton of potential and will bring maturity to our team. She has good leadership qualities both in academics and athletics and has a great personality."

At Oakmont High School, Taylor was the team MVP her sophomore-senior seasons, the team swim captain her junior and senior years and advanced to the state meet her final two years.

Along with swimming, Taylor also played water polo all four years of high school and at Sierra College.

"I am super excited," said Taylor. "I can't wait to concentrate on swimming only for the first time in a long time. I am looking forward to improving my swimming ability. Fresno wasn't on my map and then I heard that Jeanne Fleck was named head coach and I knew her reputation and that was it for me."

Sargent joins the team after spending two years in her home town at Modesto Junior College. She holds school records in the 100 free relay (1:40.05), 400 free relay (3:44.38), 800 free relay (8:10.22) and the 400 medley relay (4:11.84).

"Kelli will fill a void in the distance races," said Fleck. "She has a great attitude and will also give us leadership in the first year. I look forward to coaching her."
