FRESNO, Calif.-- The Fresno State swimming and diving teams head off in different directions this weekend. The swimmers will be heading to Los Angeles for the Arena Invitational and the divers will be heading to Houston for the Phil Hansel Invitational. Both events will run Thursday, November 21 through Saturday, November 23.

"We are excited about this meet and I have heard that East LA is a fast pool," head coach Jeanne Fleck said. "It is a little smaller meet then it used to be and most of the mid-major California schools are going to be there. It will be very good competition, but I am excited to see what our girls will do."

The meet is being held at the indoor pool on the campus of East Los Angeles College. On all three days, preliminary swims will start at 9 a.m. Finals will begin on each night at 5 p.m.

The `Dogs will be swimming against Cal Poly, Bakersfield, Hawai'i, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, San Jose State, San Diego State, UC San Diego, University of San Diego and Pacific. Fresno State has already swam against Pacific and San Jose State this season. They will host Bakersfield on January 4 for a dual meet and will see San Diego State along with San Jose State at the Mountain West Championships in February.

"Most of our girls will go best times because of the rest that really comes into play with this meet," Fleck said. "We are hoping that all of our girls will go best times this weekend."

Diving coach Taryn Patrick will take her group of four divers to the University of Houston to get them acclimated with diving indoors. The `Dogs will compete against Houston, Idaho, New Mexico State, North Texas, Rice and Tulane.

Fresno State divers are all coming off a dual meet where they posted their best scores of the season to date.

"I think that they seem to pretty positive going into this meet, " Patrick said. "I think it will be another good meet for us."

The 3-Meter Dive will be contested on Thursday followed by the 1-Meter Diving competition on Friday. The Platform diving will take place on Saturday morning.
