Swimming Opens 2003 at UC Irvine Invitational

Fresno State competes in its first meet of 2003 at the UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 4. The meet will be divided into two sessions, the individual event beginning at 9 a.m. and the distance event that is slated to start at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out (vs. Cal Poly and Loyola Marymount)
Fresno State defeated Loyola Marymount and host Cal Poly in a three-way dual meet Saturday in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The Bulldogs defeated Loyola Marymount 190-45 and Cal Poly 184-59. The 145-point margin of victory against LMU was the largest of the season for the Bulldogs, eclipsing their previous mark of 131 set earlier this season against the Lions (11/2). Sophomores Carolyn Wigginton and Melissa Johnson and senior Jessica Klenner paced the Bulldogs with two individual first place finishes each for the meet. Wigginton recorded a team season best time of 2:12.58 in the 200 IM and won the 100 Back in 58.83 seconds. Klenner clocked a team season best in the 1000 Free, posting a time of 10:40.79 to come in first. In the 500 Free, Klenner touched the wall first, finishing in 5:16.22. Johnson placed first in the 100 Free with a time of 54.22 and paced the field in the 200 Free, touching the wall in1:56.97. The Bulldogs won all but one event against the Mustangs and the Lions. FS sophomore Ashleigh Raley came in first in both diving events, winning the 1-meter with a score of 187.05 and the 3-meter with 192.1 points. Fresno State recorded 22 top-three finishes for the meet, highlighted by ten first place results.
