FRESNO, Calif. ---The Fresno State women's tennis team wrapped up the Cal Winter Invite Sunday in good fashion by sweeping singles and doubles against Saint Mary's and Santa Clara respectively.
"It was a good week," said head coach Ryan Stotland. "We got better each day and the results showed. We are looking forward to a very tough schedule and we want to compete with these tough teams. Our goal is to get better every single day and we are on our way.
Fresno State started Sunday playing singles against Saint Mary's and pulled out five key wins. Freshman Rana Sherif won a tough three setter 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. After cruising in the first set, Aishwarya Agrawal outlasted her opponent in the second set to take the win 6-1, 7-5. Freshman Sophie Watts picked up a solid 6-4, 6-3 victory while senior teammate Melissa McQueen found a way to win a tough 6-4, 7-6(5) match. Anne Susdorf rounded out the sweep for the 'Dogs with a 6-0, 6-4 decision.
After already having swept singles, the Bulldogs kept the theme of the day going when all three doubles duos won their matches over Santa Clara. Although it took an extra game Agrawal and McQueen outlasted their opponents in a 9-7 victory. Bianca Modoc teamed with Sherif and cruised to an 8-3 win while teammates Susdorf and Watts claimed a close 8-6 victory.
The 'Dogs will travel back to Berkeley this weekend for the ITA Kick Off Weekend.
