BERKELEY, Calif. --- The Fresno State women's tennis bounced back nicely Monday morning defeating Mountain West foe UNLV 5-2 at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, after falling to No. 7 California on Sunday in Berkeley, Calif.

The Bulldogs went up against the Rebels Monday morning beginning at 10 a.m. in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend consolation match.
"Today we really learned how to play like a team," said head coach Ryan Stotland. "We had a tremendous effort against a very good UNLV team who is in our conference. Now we just have to build from here going into the rest of the season and continue to work hard and get better, but I am very proud of the girls today."
The 'Dogs started the morning off in dramatic fashion taking the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches.
Aishwarya Agrawal and Rana Sherif Ahmed teamed up and recorded the first win for Fresno State dominating 8-1 at the two spot. UNLV countered the Bulldogs win on court 1, winning 8-3 over Bianca Modoc and Sophie Watts.
With the doubles split, the doubles point came down to No. 3. After falling behind 7-3, the duo of Melissa McQueen and Anne Susdorf went on a ferocious tear and rattled off four straight games. The 'Dogs were victorious in the tiebreaker securing the doubles point with a 8-7(3) win.
In singles, the 'Dogs strength came from the bottom of the lineup. Senior Modoc, cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, while freshman Watts held strong on court four to win 6-3, 6-2. Fresno State also notched two wins in three sets. At No. 3, McQueen stayed tough after dropping the first set and bounced back to win 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. The other three set win came from Susdorf, who also bounced back from dropping the first set and claimed the point 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the six spot.

In the first match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, the 'Dogs fell to No. 7 California 7-0 Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Bears took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 (8-1) and No. 2 (8-2). Court three did not finish their match due to the doubles point being clinched.
In singles, the 'Dogs played tough but the Bears were too much to handle sweeping all six matches. Senior McQueen pushed #109 Lynn Chi to the brink at No. 3, but Chi found a way to squeak by 7-6(6), 6-4. Susdorf won the first set at the six spot, but Kelly Chui came from behind to take the second set and a third set tiebreaker, winning 2-6, 7-6(5), 10-6.
The 'Dogs will be back in action this weekend as they continue their month long road trip down south. Fresno State will take on Pepperdine on Friday at 10 a.m. and USC on Saturday at noon.
