Modoc Victorious in Singles Action

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 29 Fresno State welcomed Saint Mary's to the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center on Thursday, with the Gaels picking up a 5-2 victory for the first time in the series history.
Bulldog senior and fourth-ranked Anastasia Petukhova continues to hold down the No. 1 spot this spring, as she added another victory to her spring total by defeating the Gael's Alex Poorta, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
Petukhova and her partner Renata Kucerkova continued to look sharp together, as they recorded an 8-3 victory over Poorta and Clair Soper.
Freshman Bianca Modoc was another bright spot for the Bulldogs. She picked up a dramatic 6-2, 4-6, (10-6) super-tiebreaker victory against Alisa Spitzer.
The victory for the Gaels brings their record to 2-1 this spring and are now 1-8 all-time against the Bulldogs.
"Saint Mary's is a tough team," head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "We will continue to work hard and give an equal effort on all courts. We have some goals for the end of the year and we will focus on achieving those."
The `Dogs will next be in action on Feb. 19 against UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev.
