MANHATTAN, Kan. --- The No. 55 Fresno State women's tennis team fell short of a road upset Friday afternoon as No. 53 Kansas State won 4-2.
“The team competed well today, we came out strong after losing the doubles point and did some great things,” said Fresno State head coach Ryan Stotland.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 2.
Junior Aishwarya Agrawal countered by starting the ’Dogs off strong in singles, taking her match in straight sets on court three. After splitting her first two sets at No. 1 spot, sophomore Sophie Watts then won her third set in the tiebreaker to take the match, putting the Bulldogs up 2-1.
Kansas State then edged Fresno State to take the next three straight matches on courts four, two and five to clinch the dual.
“We need to just keep improving and keep our heads high after a tough loss as we head into tomorrow’s match,” added Stotland.
The Bulldogs have a quick turnaround as they are set to travel to Wichita, Kan., to face Wichita State tomorrow at 8 a.m. PT, at the Wichita Country Club. Live scoring is available here.
