Bulldogs Ace Aggies, 7-0

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The No. 43 Fresno State women's tennis team defeated New Mexico State, 7-0, Saturday morning at the New Mexico State Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs (6-5, 2-0 WAC) opened with wins from all three doubles teams over New Mexico State (6-4, 1-1 WAC) to take an early 1-0 lead despite the cold weather and wind. No. 3 doubles duo, Laura Polaand Aishwarya Agrawal started off the Bulldog win with a, 8-2, decision over Ros-Polly Nguyen and Denise Van Der Ben. The Bulldogs quickly followed at the No. 2 and 1 spots, beating their opponents, 8-3, and 8-2.
In singles the `Dogs never looked back, with victories in all seven contests in straight sets. This win improves upon the Bulldogs' four-game winning streak and earns them the lead in the conference standings at 2-0.
At No. 1 singles, 42nd-ranked singles player Marianne Jodoin beat Manon Sylvain, 6-0, 6-1. Junior Bianca Modoc defeated Nguyen, 6-3, 6-, at the No. 5 spot. Freshman Agrawal bested Ginet Pinero, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3.
At No. 4 singles junior Melissa McQueen defeated Natalia Salum, 6-3, 6-2. Junior Olga Kirpicheva beat Van Der Ben 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 2 spot. At No. 6 singles, sophomore Tanya Murtagh bested Annemieke Witte, 7-6, 6-2, in the closest match of the day.
"I was very happy with our performance today," Head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "It was nice to beat a conference opponent 7-0 and it was good to have a preview of the facilities we will compete at the WAC Championships next month despite the 38 degree weather."
The Bulldogs travel to Las Vegas next Friday to face-off against No. 71 UNLV at 10 a.m. at the Frank and Vicki Fertitta Tennis Complex.
