FRESNO, Calif. - Five Fresno State players won in straight sets to lead the Bulldogs to an easy 6-1 victory over Gonzaga on Friday afternoon at the Wathen Tennis Center.

The win came in the first match for Fresno State (4-4) after having its home court winning streak snapped at 15 in a 4-3 loss last week to No. 46 Sacramento State.

The Bulldogs dropped only 13 combined games in their five singles wins. They also dominated at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, cruising in both. At the top doubles spot, 22nd-ranked Lucia Sainz and Courtney Jantz defeated Angela Fry and Sirrah Williams 8-2.

Fresno State was able to do its damage against Gonzaga (5-8) despite not having the services of No. 2 singles player Lucia Tallo, who sat out the match to rest an injured right wrist. Tallo is expected to play Sunday in the Bulldogs' match against 35th-ranked Pepperdine.

In singles, Katharina Winterhalter breezed to a win in her first match since entering the national rankings for the first time in her career. Ranked 71st, Winterhalter knocked off Fry 6-1, 6-1.

At No. 2, Sainz ran her winning streak to five with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Amanda Becker. Also posting straight-set wins were Jantz, Jacqui Haskett and Fadzai Masiyazi at spots 3-5, respectively.

"It's very nice to get a win, especially after being dealt a tough loss last week," head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "We played with a much better energy level in singles than we did in doubles. We came out a little flat in doubles, but we turned it up a little bit as the match went on, and that's important heading into a tough match Sunday."

Fresno State will host Pepperdine on Sunday at noon at the Wathen Tennis Center, the first time ever the Waves have played a dual at the facility.
