Pallo and Wiggins Supply Heroics in Women's Tennis Victory

    FRESNO, Calif. - A come from behind victory at No. 2 doubles by senior Terje Pello and freshman Chantel Wiggins secured a 5-4 victory for 19th-ranked Fresno State over 22nd-ranked Washington at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center today.

    Down 2-5 in the match, Pallo and Wiggins rallied to an 8-6 victory over Zuzana Stunaova and Peggy Wu of Washington to clinch the victory for the Bulldogs. Prior to Pallo and Wiggins' victory, senior Dora Djilianova and sophomore Liesl Fichtbauer, ranked 28th, defeated 22nd-ranked Kristina Kraszewski and Ilona Kordonskaya of Washington, 8-5, to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead.

    In singles, the Bulldogs battled to a 3-3 tie. At No. 1, 10th-ranked Djilianova defeated 13th-ranked Kraszewski of Washington, 6-4, 6-4, and Fichtbauer was victorious over the Huskies' Wu, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3. Senior Shana Peete evened the match at 3-3 with a three set victory over 71st-ranked Stunova, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2.

    The Bulldogs are now 7-0 at home this season and improved to 11-3 with today's victory.
