FRESNO, Calif. --- Fresno State's women tennis three seniors, Olga Kirpicheva, Melissa McQueen and Bianca Modoc, went out on top Saturday afternoon in their final home match as the 'Dogs swept Colorado State 7-0 at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
Fresno State won three straight Mountain West matches in three days at home this weekend and are now leading the conference at 4-0 with four regular season MW matches remaining.
"The girls were very motivated to day because of senior day," said head coach Ryan Stotland. "There are a lot of emotions on a day like today. Everybody found a way to win which is key."
For the fourth straight match, the Bulldogs started the match off by winning the doubles point. Senior Olga Kirpicheva and Aishwarya Agrawal dominated on court three for their second straight 8-1 victory. Senior Melissa McQueen and Rana Sherif Ahmed clinched the point for Fresno State as they topped the one spot 8-2. Senior Bianca Modoc and Sophie Watts rounded out the sweep for the 'Dogs winning 8-4 at No. 3.
"I feel really confident in our team right now," said Modoc. "I think the whole team is in a really good place and I think we've got some good tennis ahead of us."
Kirpicheva put the 'Dogs ahead 2-0 as she crushed her opponent 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. Freshman S. Watts followed the seniors' lead as she rolled 6-1, 6-0 on court three. McQueen then left her mark in her final home match as she clinched the victory for the Bulldogs winning 6-2, 6-4 at the two spot. Anneka Watts continued the winning ways at No. 6 as she only gave up two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win.
The final two matches on court went to third set super tiebreakers with both Bulldogs finding a way to pull out the victories. Modoc finished her career at the Wathen Tennis Center fighting off multiple match points to win 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (13-11). Agrawal completed the sweep for Fresno State as she recorded her first win at the top spot this season with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-2).
"They have been great leaders," Stotland said of the seniors. "They have basically been role models to the underclassmen on how things get done and how to improve on and off of the court."
