FRESNO, Calif. - The 12th-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team was nearly flawless in its fifth straight win on Friday afternoon, shutting out Santa Clara 7-0 at the Wathen Tennis Center. The Bulldogs won the doubles point for the 10th straight time and were victorious in all six singles matches as they improved to 14-3 on the season.

"We've gained a lot of confidence since the beginning of the season and we continue to stay focused," said freshman Vanessa Heroux. "We aren't going to take any teams lightly and we're going to keep playing with intensity."

Heroux was solid in both singles and doubles for the Bulldogs. She and sophomore Danon Beatty got things started in doubles with an 8-3 win at the No. 2 spot. Freshman Bruna Paes and junior Jacqueline Haskett were the first to finish in doubles, beating Kim Daniel and Meghan Madden 8-1.

Paes also played in singles, winning easily over Madden in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

"I was a little nervous because I hadn't played in a while, but I was definitely prepared mentally to come out and play hard," Paes said. "I thought Jacqui and I played very well in doubles and although I made some mistakes in singles, I was pleased with my performance."

Freshman Renata Kucerkova was the first to finish in singles, beating Stephanie Galainena 6-0, 6-0. It took less than 40 minutes for Kucerkova to complete the match as she improved to 25-7 overall and 14-3 in dual matches.

Second-ranked sophomore Melanie Gloria followed with a dominant victory at the No. 1 spot. She defeated Casey Knutson 6-1, 6-0. Gloria has won 13 straight matches, 12 of which have come in straight sets.

Sophomore Tinesta Rowe clinched the match at the No. 3 spot in the lineup for her 10th overall victory of the season. She beat Kim Daniel 6-1, 6-1 and extended her winning streak to four matches.

After Paes won at No. 6, Heroux followed with a straight set win over Lindsay McBride at No. 4.

Haskett completed the shut out for the Bulldogs as she beat Erika Barnes 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 5 spot.

Fresno State will host Loyola Marymount at 9 a.m. on Saturday followed by a 2:30 p.m. match with Saint Mary's at the Wathen Tennis Center.
