RENO, Nev. --- Backed behind strong singles play, the No. 74 Fresno State women's tennis team defeated Nevada 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Caughlin Athletic Club to finish regular season Mountain West play with a perfect 5-0 undefeated record.

"Nevada is a very good team and a tough place to play, to beat them at home this time of year is a great victory for us, "said Fresno State head coach Ryan Stotland. "To go undefeated in Mountain West regular season is a tremendous feat as we play great competition, and for everyone on the team to contribute the way they have is tremendous. Today we made history and we couldn't be prouder."

After dropping a close doubles point to the Nevada Wolf Pack, the Bulldogs rallied and went on to win five-of-six singles matches to seal a 5-2 win for flawless MW regular season record.

Sophomore Sofya Malysheva started the singles swing for the 'Dogs, running past Sheila Smiley of Nevada in straight sets (6-2, 6-0). This was Malysheva's fourth straight singles win. Anneka Watts followed next, winning her point on court four (6-4, 6-2).

After losing the succeeding point at the No. 2 slate, the 'Dogs took the next three straight. Junior Anne Susdorf won her eighth-straight singles match as she defeated Juliette Legendre 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Sophie Watts then won the match point at the top spot to seal the conference victory for the Bulldogs.

With the dual decided, Tanya Murtagh defeated Monika Magusiak (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) on court six.

Winning eight-straight duals, the Bulldogs improve to 12-8, 5-0 MW on the season.

"This team has been so resilient, we have come so far and we are excited to carry momentum into the conference tournament as the only undefeated team in the MW and most likely the No. 1 seed," added Stotland. "We hope that we have tremendous fan support for the tournament at home in Fresno, as the girls have worked hard all year to set themselves up in such a great position."

After finishing MW play on a high note, Fresno State is set to play one more dual of regular season next weekend as they take on Cal Poly in a nonconference match on April 18 at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs then host the 2014 MW Tennis Championships at Sierra Sport and Racquet Club on April 23-27.
