FS Sweeps La Tech, Advance to Semifinals

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 72 Fresno State women's tennis team started its Western Athletic Conference tournament out strong with a solid 4-0 victory over Louisiana Tech in Boise, Idaho. The Dogs swept the seventh-seeded team Lady Techsters at the BOAS Indoor Tennis Complex Thursday afternoon. The Dogs started the match off victorious in doubles, and proceeded to conquer La Tech in the next three matches, not dropping one set.
This is the second time this season these two teams have met up. Fresno State swept La Tech both times.
Fresno State freshman and nationally ranked singles player, No. 55 Jodoin added another point to the Dogs score defeating La Tech's Elne Barnard, 6-1, 6-2 on court one.
McQueen's power hit and skills earned her a straight-set victory over Melanie Urvoy on court three, 6-1, 6-3.
Only dropping one game in each set, the Bulldog sophomore continued her WAC reign and triumphed over Anna Zurek on court five, 6-1, 6-1.
"Today was a great start of the WAC championship," said head coach Simon Thibodeau. "We did a very good in singles, are focused and looking forward to tomorrow."
The Dogs will take on the winner of the third-seeded Nevada or sixth-seeded Hawai'i in the semifinals on Friday at noon at the BOAS Indoor Tennis Complex. The winner of the match will advance to the WAC Championship match for a chance for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
