Four Women's Tennis Players Still Alive in Wathen/Hancock Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - Second-seeded Chloe Carlotti led four Bulldogs into the round of 16 in the eighth annual Wathen/Hancock Bulldog Classic, taking place at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center this weekend.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Carlotti breezed past Georgina Dinham of Loyola Marymount 6-4, 6-0. The All-American will take on fellow Bulldog Courtney Jantz on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. Jantz was victorious in both of her matches today, including a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Urska Dvorsek of Pacific in the second round.
Also winning today for Fresno State was No. 6-seed Lucia Tallo, who took out California's Jessica Shu in the second round 6-1, 6-0. She will play Vania Apodaca of Nevada tomorrow at 10 a.m.
In her first match as a Bulldog, Katherin Winterhalter defeated Loyola Marymount's Jennifer Baker 6-2, 6-4. She will take on third-seeded Catherine Lynch of California in a round of 16 match Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Another Bulldog newcomer, Vlatka Jovanovic, did not fare as well as her teammates. After winning her first round match 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 against San Jose State's Noelle Lee, she fell to top-seeded Raquel Kops-Jones of California 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles, Fresno State's top doubles team of Carlotti and Tallo breezed in their match. The No. 2-seeds defeated Jessica Beauchene and Natalia Kostenko of Pacific 8-3. They will play the fifth-seeded duo of Dinham and Edit Pakay of Loyola Marymount tomorrow at 3:45 p.m.
Also advancing was the team of Winterhalter and Jantz, who won their match 8-3 against Brooke Borisoff and Rio Del Rosario of California. They also will play at 3:45 p.m. tomorrow, with their opponents being third-seeded Carla Arguelles and Nicole Havilcek of Cal.
Round of 16 singles matches begin Saturday at 8:45 a.m. Quarterfinal matches start at 12:45 p.m. Doubles quarterfinal matches are at 3:45 p.m. The doubles semifinals and finals of doubles takes place Sunday.
