STANFORD, Calif. --- The Fresno State women's tennis team had nine wins in day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium on Friday.

Fresno State had a strong start to the tournament, going 5-for-6 in the singles round of 128. Claire Yang, Sophie Watts, Anneka Watts, Anne Susdorf and Rana Sherif Ahmed all won their respected singles matches in the first round.

Fresno State had one victory in the doubles round of 64. Sofya Malysheva and Sherif Ahmed defeated Stanford's Herring and Kostas (8-7; 7-6(4)). Susdorf and Yang had a bye in the first round of doubles and will join Malysheva and Sherif Ahmed in the doubles round of 32 tomorrow.

"We did pretty well today, we still have some things to work on but overall we had a good day," said Fresno State head coach Ryan Stotland. "I am excited to see how we do tomorrow as the competition gets tougher."

The Bulldogs are back on the court tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. with doubles play.
