FRESNO, Calif. ---The No. 56 Fresno State women's tennis team will head down to the City of Angels this weekend to face a pair of nationally ranked opponents in T-No. 33 Pepperdine and No. 4 USC.
The 'Dogs first stop will be in Malibu at 10 a.m. on Friday when they take on the Waves at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. Fresno State will then head in to L.A. Saturday at noon to take on the Women of Troy at Marks Stadium.
Time to Hit the Road
This weekend's matches mark the half-way point of the month long road trip of road matches in California and Arizona. The 'Dogs will have one more road trip in California to the Bay Area to play USF and Santa Clara and will then set off to Arizona to face UofA and Arizona State to wrap up the road trip.
ITA Kick-Off Weekend Wrap Up
The Fresno State women's tennis split their two matches at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. In the first round, the 'Dogs ran into a tough No. 7 Cal Bears team who swept all matches winning 7-0. The 'Dogs bounced back nicely on day two defeating Mountain West foe UNLV 5-2 in the consolation match.
The Bulldogs home opener will come on Friday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. against the Hornets of Sacramento State. Fresno State will hit the courts a day later to face UC Davis at 10 a.m.
Ryan Stotland is in his first season as head coach of the Fresno State women's tennis team and the eighth head coach in the history of the program and replaces Simon Thibodeau, who led the Bulldogs for the past eight seasons.
Stotland was the assistant coach Arizona for the last four seasons where he coached five nationally ranked singles players, four nationally ranked doubles teams, posted a 55-37 overall record and made two NCAA Tournament appearances.
