Bulldogs Face Hornets & Gaels
The No. 55 Fresno State women's tennis team continues its nine-match road trip this weekend in California as they face Sacramento State and St. Mary's. The Bulldogs will play the Hornets (0-2) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club in Sacramento, Calif., and then travel to Moraga on Sunday to dual the Gaels (1-1) at 11a.m. at Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
About the Competition
Sacramento State also enters Saturday's match in search of its first win of the season. The Hornets opened dual play with two 4-3 losses last weekend to San Francisco and No. 68 San Jose State. St. Mary's who is nationally ranked at No. 37 split a pair of matches at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend hosted by USC, defeating No. 58 Utah 4-2 before dropping the finale 4-0 to the No. 6-ranked Trojans. Fresno State and Saint Mary's are no stranger of each other, the two teams squared off at the Cal Winter Invitational two weeks ago. The Gaels won 5-of-7 singles matches and took 2-of-3 doubles matches over the 'Dogs.
Moving up in ITA Rankings
After facing to Top 30 teams Fresno State moved up one spot to No. 55 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's third round of rankings of 2014 that were released on Jan. 29. In addition to the team ranking, the Bulldogs also hold their singles and doubles ranking that were released in the initial polls. Sophomore Sophie Watts has an ITA singles ranking of No. 104, while Aishwarya Agrawal and Claire Yang pair to maintain an ITA doubles ranking of No. 41. Watts was also ranked at No. 15 in the ITA Northwest Region rankings while Agrawal and Yang have a doubles ranking of No. 7 in the region.

On the Road
The Bulldogs open spring season with a month-long road trip in California, South Carolina, Kansas and Washington. The Bulldogs have returned to California to face Sacramento State and St. Mary's after traveling to Clemson, S.C. for ITA Kick-Off Weekend last week. Fresno State next heads to Kansas and Washington to conclude their nine-match road trip.
After beginning the season with nine dual road matches, the Bulldogs will host No. 67 Santa Clara for their home opener on Friday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. Fresno State will then hit the courts two days later to face Boise State for their first MW match of the year at 10 a.m.
Stotland Enters Second Season
Head coach Ryan Stotland enters his second season at the helm of the Fresno State women's tennis program. In his first year at the reigns, Stotland led the Bulldogs to a third place finish in their first year in the Mountain West with a 7-3 record. Stotland also guided the 'Dogs to their highest ITA ranking of No. 52, which came on Feb. 12, 2013, and also had two doubles pairs earn ITA rankings throughout the year. Under Stotland's leadership three Bulldogs earned MW Player of the Week in 2013.
