Bulldogs Face Wildcats & Shockers
The No. 55 Fresno State women's tennis team continues its nine-match road trip as they travel to play Kansas State and Wichita State this weekend. The Bulldogs will play the Wildcats (3-1) on Friday at 10 a.m. PT at the Body First Tennis and Fitness Center in Manhattan, Kan., and then travel to Wichita on Saturday to dual the Shockers (2-2) at 8 a.m. PT at the Wichita Country Club.
About the Competition
Kansas State enters Fridays match on a three game winning streak. After dropping their first dual of the season to Arkansas, the Wildcats have gone on to grad three straight victories over Elon, Northern Iowa and Liberty. Two of the three wins came at home at the Body First Tennis and Fitness Center. The Bulldogs lead the Wildcats 4-1 all-time.
This will be the first ever matchup of Wichita State and Fresno State. The Shockers are 2-2 on the season with two back-to-back wins over Creighton and UMKC. Coming off of two straight road wins, Saturdays match will Wichita State's first home dual of the year.
Fresno State moved up one spot to No. 55 last week in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's third round of rankings of 2014 that were released on Jan. 29. The 'Dogs maintained their spot in the rankings after splitting two matches last weekend. In addition to the team ranking, the Bulldogs also hold their singles and doubles ranking that were released in the initial polls. Sophomore Sophie Watts has an ITA singles ranking of No. 104, while Aishwarya Agrawal and Claire Yang pair to maintain an ITA doubles ranking of No. 41. Watts was also ranked at No. 15 in the ITA Northwest Region rankings while Agrawal and Yang have a doubles ranking of No. 7 in the region. The next round of rankings will be release on Feb. 11.

On the Road
The Bulldogs open spring season with a month-long road trip in California, South Carolina, Kansas and Washington. The Bulldogs have played four matches on the road and now travel to Kansas face No. 53 Kansas State and Wichita State. After two duals this weekend, Fresno State next heads to Washington to conclude its nine-match road trip with duals against Washington State and No. 69 Princeton.
After beginning the season with nine dual road matches, the Bulldogs are set to host No. 57 Santa Clara for their home opener on Friday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. Fresno State will then hit the courts two days later to face Boise State for their first MW match of the year at 10 a.m.
Stotland Enters Second Season
Head coach Ryan Stotland enters his second season at the helm of the Fresno State women's tennis program. In his first year at the reigns, Stotland led the team to a 7-3 conference record, which finished the Bulldogs tied for second in the Mountain West. Stotland also guided the 'Dogs to their highest ITA ranking of No. 52, which came on Feb. 12, 2013, and also had two doubles pairs earn ITA rankings throughout the year. Under Stotland's leadership three Bulldogs earned MW Player of the Week in 2013.
