FRESNO, Calif. ---The No. 56 Fresno State women's tennis team is set to take on a pair of Bay Area teams this weekend as they travel to face San Francisco on Saturday and Santa Clara on Sunday. Both matches will begin at 11 a.m.
The 'Dogs will take on the 3-1 Dons at Golden Gate Park, while they will face the undefeated (2-0) Broncos at the Degheri Tennis Center.
'Dogs Pull Upset In Malibu
The Fresno State women's tennis went into Malibu last weekend and upset the No. 33 Pepperdine Waves 4-3 on their home courts. The 'Dogs secured the very important doubles point as Melissa McQueen and Anne Susdorf stormed back from a 7-4 deficit to clinch the point in a tiebreak eventually winning 8-7(3) for the second match in a row. The 'Dogs then won in the three bottom spots of the lineup with Anneka Watts notching the winning fourth point in her first appearance as a Bulldog.
Wrapping Up Road Trip
The bottom half of the Fresno State lineup has been clutch in the 'Dogs back-to-back wins against No. 51 UNLV and No. 33. Anne Susdorf and Sophie Watts each won their matches in both contests, while Bianca Modoc (vs. UNLV) and Anneka Watts (vs. PEP) eached chipped in a win. The 'Dogs depth is going to be a major strength with multiple players seeing action throughout the season, making head coach Ryan Stotland's job, "Difficult, but that's a good thing."
After nearly a month of play on the road, the 'Dogs will have one more road trip after this weekend's play in the Bay. The Bulldogs will be off to Arizona to face UofA and Arizona State to wrap up the road trip Feb. 15 and 16.
The Bulldogs home opener will come on Friday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. against the Hornets of Sacramento State. Fresno State will hit the courts a day later to face UC Davis at 10 a.m.
