Women's Tennis 21st, Men's Tennis 55th in Latest ITA Rankings
Feb. 15, 2005 FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team moved up one spot to 21st while the men's team checked in at 55th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, released Tuesday. The Bulldog women (1-1) began the season at No. 21, fell to 22nd for the past two weeks, and despite losing Saturday at No. 11 UCLA, still rose one spot. Fresno State is the three-time defending WAC champions and is the highest-ranked league team. The Bulldogs are followed by Rice (39th), SMU (49th) and Tulsa (61st). The women host 51st-ranked San Diego on Saturday at noon at the Wathen Tennis Center. The Fresno State men (5-1) are currently 55th after defeating No. 58 Old Dominion 4-2 on Saturday. Next up for the Bulldogs is a home match tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Sacramento State and then a road contest Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at No. 48 San Diego. Both the men's and women's team both have impressive winning streaks at the Wathen Tennis Center going. The men have won 18 in a row at home while the women have posted 15 consecutive victories. The current poll is the final coaches' poll of the season. Beginning next week and through the remainder of the season, computerized rankings will be used.
