COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- For the second time in three weeks the Fresno State women's tennis team has collected a weekly award from the Mountain West as senior Melissa McQueen has been selected the MW Women's Tennis Player of the Week for competition from Feb. 21-25. It is the first MW weekly honor and first weekly conference (also played in the WAC) award in McQueen's career.
McQueen, from Whitby, Canada, went undefeated over the weekend as the No. 53 Bulldogs defeated No. 62 Sacramento State, 6-1, on Feb. 22, and UC Davis, 5-2, on Feb. 23. McQueen, playing at No. 3 singles, turned away Sacramento State's Katharina Knoebl, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6). She followed that up with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ellie Edles of UC Davis. In doubles, McQueen partnered with freshman Rana Sherif Ahmed and picked up a pair of wins at No. 2 doubles. They beat Knoebl and Jennifer Nguyen of Sacramento State, 8-4, and also topped Nicole Koehly and Layla Sanders of UC Davis by the same score. McQueen has won five of her last six doubles and singles matches.
