FRESNO, Calif. - No. 14 Fresno State travels to Reno, Nev., on Saturday to begin the 2009 Western Athletic Conference season against San Jose State at 8:30 a.m. and No. 56 Nevada at 3 p.m.
The Bulldogs are the defending seven-time WAC champions, and sport a combined all-time record of 57-2 against the current WAC teams.
This year, Fresno State is 11-5 against non-conference opponents and has won eight of its last nine matches. The Bulldogs have beat nine ranked teams, with their biggest win coming on the road at No. 5 California on March 21.
San Jose State is 10-8 on the year and 0-1 in WAC play after a 7-0 loss to Boise State on March 19. The Spartans are riding a four-match winning streak coming into the weekend.
Fresno State is 8-0 all time against the Spartans. The teams last met in Las Cruces, N.M., in the WAC tournament on April 24, 2008, when the Bulldogs handed San Jose State a 4-0 first-round loss.
Saturday is also Nevada's WAC opener. The Wolf Pack come into the weekend with a 5-7 record, as winners in three of its last four matches.
The Bulldogs are undefeated in 15 meetings with the Wolf Pack. In the last meeting, on April 5, 2008, Fresno State routed Nevada, 6-1, at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs return home to the Wathen Tennis Center for a tripleheader on Senior Day on April 11 against Louisiana Tech, Utah State and New Mexico State.
