Malysheva Named MW Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- Fresno State sophomore Sofya Malysheva was named Mountain West Women's Tennis Player of the Week by the conference on Wednesday for competition played April 9-15. This is her first career MW weekly accolade and fourth for the Bulldogs this season.
Malysheva went a combined 4-0 last weekend to lead No. 68 Fresno State (12-8, 5-0 MW) to two 5-2 conference victories over San Jose State and Nevada, helping the Bulldogs finish MW regular season play with an undefeated record (5-0).
The Nynäshamn, Sweden native stepped up huge last weekend for the 'Dogs, moving up to the No. 3 spot to sweep both of her singles matches in straight sets. She defeated Leon Chao, Sabastian of San Jose State (6-1, 6-3) and then started the singles swing for the 'Dogs against Nevada- running past Sheila Smiley (6-2, 6-0). Malysheva is currently on a four-match win streak in singles play.
Malysheva teamed up with Rana Sherif Ahmed in doubles to win both of their matches at the No. 2 slate. The duo turned back the San José State duo of Julianna Bacelar and Jessica Willett, 8-7 (4), and followed that up with an 8-2 win over Nevada's Juliette Legendre and Smiley, 8-2.
Having won their last eight-straight duals, the Bulldogs and are set to close regular season play with a nonconference dual at Cal Poly on Friday, April 18 at 2 p.m. Fresno State then hosts the 2014 Mountain West tournament at Sierra Sport and Racquet Club April 23-27.
