ATHENS, Ga. - The NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament round of 16 match between Fresno State and sixth-seeded Georgia will not begin until at least 4:30 p.m. PT.
The delay is due to matches earlier in the day that ran longer than expected. The Washington-Arizona State match, which began at 9 a.m. local time didn't end until 12:30 p.m., and the UCLA-USC contest went very long, not reaching completion until nearly 5 p.m.
That meant the Stanford-Kentucky matchup, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET, didn't get under way until nearly 5 p.m.
Fresno State enters tonight's match 22-3 on the season, but faces a tough contest against host Georgia (19-4), which spent a good portion of the 2004 campaign ranked No. 2 in the nation. A partisan crowd is expected at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
In matches already completed on Thursday, fourth-seeded Washington defeated Arizona State 4-2; fifth-seeded Clemson knocked off 12th-seeded Texas A&M 4-1; No. 9-seed UCLA avenged two regular season losses to USC by upsetting the eighth-seeded Women of Troy 4-2; and unseeded Miami (Fla.) continued its Cinderella run with a 4-2 win over No. 16-seeded Tulane.
