FRESNO, Calif. --- With one week until their first fall tournament, Fresno State head women's tennis coach Ryan Stotland announced the Bulldogs 2013-14 schedule.
"This schedule is one of the toughest schedules that we have had," said Stotland "We play a lot of ranked teams this year, there aren't going to be any easy matches."
The Bulldogs compete in seven individual tournaments this fall and open up competition at the Redding Challenger in Redding, Calif. on Sept. 8. Fresno State then travels to Berkeley, Calif. two weeks later to compete in the Nike Cal Invite, Sept. 27-29.
After competing in three more fall tournaments, Fresno State returns home to host its annual Bulldog Classic, Nov. 1-3 before finishing its fall schedule at the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 7-10 in Flushing, N.Y.
The 'Dogs conclude their tournament play at the California Winter Invite the third week of January. The Bulldogs then begin dual match play at Clemson on Jan. 25. While at Clemson Fresno State will also face Tennessee (Jan. 26) or Purdue (Jan. 26) to conclude its ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Fresno State will be on the road for most of February with matches at Sacramento State, St. Mary's, Kansas State, Wichita State, Idaho, Washington State and Princeton.
The 'Dogs home opener will take place on Feb. 21 against Santa Clara at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs then host Boise State for their Mountain West opener two days later at 10 a.m.
After opening conference with the Broncos, the Bulldogs will not see a MW opponent until hosting San Diego State on March 28 at 11 a.m., and UNLV on March 30 at 10 a.m. Fresno State then concludes MW play with two road matches at San Jose State (April 11) and Nevada (April 13).
Other nonconference teams Fresno State will face include Pepperdine, Santa Barbara, UT-Arlington, Dartmouth, Denver and Cal Poly.
"The most exciting part of our schedule is the Mountain West Championship that we are hosting this year which is a big honor, "said Stotland.
In its second year in the Mountain West, Fresno State will host the 2014 Mountain West Championships April 24-27. The tournament will be held at the Sierra Racquet Club.
With six returning Bulldogs and two newcomers, Stotland is looking forward to getting the season started. Fresno State returns Aishwarya Agrawal, Rana Sherif Ahmed, Tanya Murtagh, Anne Susdorf, Anneka Watts and Sophie Watts and welcomes freshman Claire Yang and transfer Sofya Malysheva.
"We are excited to go play all of these tough teams and get the season underway, "added Stotland.
