FRESNO, Calif. - Junior Tinesta Rowe was named the Western Athletic Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Month on Tuesday for her outstanding performances during the month of October. It was the second time a member of the women's tennis team has earned the award this season after sophomore Anastasia Petukhova was honored in September.
Rowe posted a perfect 5-0 doubles mark and a 4-1 singles record at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional Championships at the University of Stanford in October. Rowe and teammate Melanie Gloria captured the doubles title by scores of 8-1, 8-2, 8-2, 8-2, and 8-6. Rowe was also impressive in the singles bracket, reaching the quarterfinals in a tournament filled with national-ranked opponents. In the round of 32, Rowe upset No. 9 Celia Durkin of Stanford in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Rowe completes the fall season having participated in the ITA National Indoor Championships and reaching the quarterfinals with Gloria. Rowe now owns an overall singles record of 9-3 and an overall doubles record of 13-5. As the 11th-ranked tandem in the country, Rowe and Gloria beat four opponents ranked in the top-20 and six ranked opponents overall.
