FRESNO, Calif. - In its second straight five-set match of the season, the Fresno State volleyball team (1-1) suffered its first loss of 2013 to Santa Clara (1-1) Saturday afternoon in final-day action in the Bulldog Invitational Presented by Deli Delicious.

The Bulldogs' outside hitter pair of senior Korrin Wild and sophomore Zana Bowens again led the offense with their 21 and 20 kills and .278 and .375 hitting marks, respectively.

More than quadrupling her career kills high entering the season (5), the Long Beach native Bowens also posted her first career double-double, thanks to her 11 digs, while Wild was just shy of similar honors with her eight digs.

At the service line, Wild was one of three 'Dogs that landed single aces with senior middle blocker Lauren Albertson and junior setter Cori Ehmen.

In her second match for Fresno State, Ehmen turned in another double-double (60 assists, 11 digs), while other Bulldog stat leaders included Albertson (7 blocks), junior libero Christina Lee (27 digs), junior middle blocker Maci Murdock (.600, 7 blocks).

Team-wise, the Bulldogs held edges in kills (72-68), hitting (.266-.228), assists (69-60) and blocks (15-9), while the Broncos sported a 15-3 service ace advantage.

Individually for the returning NCAA advancers, Santa Clara's stat leaders included Megan Anders (16 kills, 6 blocks), Sabrina Clayton (.407, 21 points, 7 aces), GiGi Cresto (30 assists) and Danielle Rottman (19 digs).

"Offensively we looked OK, but we need to improve our serving and passing," Bulldog head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell said. "Zana is playing great and Korin got it going, too. Lauren really picked up us in the fourth set, and Maci was hot throughout the match, too. It's a young season, so we're still learning how to adjust to each team defensively since they're all a little different, but we need to do that quicker."

Looking ahead, two more matches cap action at the Save Mart Center Saturday night - Santa Clara vs. Rice at 5 p.m., and Fresno State vs. Cal State Northridge at 7:30 p.m.
