    NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Fresno State Bulldogs equaled their win total from a year ago (7-3) with a five-set victory over Cal State Northridge on Friday night at the Matadome. Set scores were 22-25, 25-23, 23-25, 26-24 and 15-8.

    Fresno State took an early lead in set one, 3-1, with a service ace by senior setter Allanah Munson.

    Cal State Northridge fought back to take a lead of as many as four (13-9). Back-to-back kills by junior Lauren Berger and a block by Berger got the Bulldogs within one at 13-12.

    Berger tied the set with two more kills at 15-15 and 16-16. CSUN took the lead for good at 20-19 and while the `Dogs got within one on two different occasions, the Matadors took the set 25-22.

    Berger led the `Dogs with four kills in set one and Kasey Van Grouw added three, respectively.

    It was Fresno State that took the early lead in set two by as many as five (17-12).

    After a CSUN block that tied the set at 21-21, the set was tied again at 22 but a kill by Berger and a long rally gave the Bulldogs set point at 24-22.

    CSUN got a kill to cut within one but a Matador service error gave the `Dogs the set 25-23.

    The `Dogs hit .333 in set two and Lacey Gera had six kills.

    After a close early set three through the first 20 points, CSUN took a 16-11 lead. Fresno State got within one and with the set tied at 23-23, two Fresno State errors gave the Matadors the set 25-23 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

    In a must-need set four, the Bulldogs came out on top 26-24 after a long battle. The `Dogs were down early at 10-2, but fought back to get within two (14-12) off of a block by Munson and Kelly Leonardo.

    A kill by Berger tied the set at 19-19.

    With the `Dogs up 23-22, CSUN called a timeout. After a kill by Baylee Platt, the `Dogs had their second set point and a Matador error gave the `Dogs the set and tied the match at 2-2.

    Fresno State came out on fire in the fifth set to a 7-0 lead with Munson serving that included two aces and two kill by Platt. On the first match point, the `Dogs would prevail on a CSUN error, 15-8.

    Berger led the team with a .353 hitting percentage and 16 kills. Gera posted a new season-high in kills with 16 as well and had 13 digs for a double-double. Platt ended with 11 kills.

    Munson had a season-high 50 assists and 16 digs for a double-double.

    The last time the Bulldogs started 7-3 was in 2004. Fresno State's last victory over CSUN was also a five-set victory in 2005.

    The `Dogs take on Portland at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Galen Center on the campus of USC. The `Dogs then face the Trojans at 7 p.m.
