LOS ANGELES - The Fresno State volleyball team concluded its three-match road trip in Southern California by taking on its first ranked opponent of the year and the `Dogs (7-5) fell to No. 15 USC (11-1) Saturday night at the Galen Center by set scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-13.

Fresno State tied USC early at 2-2 and then the Women of Troy extended its lead to 12-5.

Three-straight Fresno State points got the `Dogs within five (12-7) but USC went on to take the set 25-12. USC hit .435 in the set.

The `Dogs stayed close with USC through the beginning of the set and were within two at 11-9. Down 20-12, the `Dogs rallied to within four at 24-20 after a 24-16 USC lead, but the Women of Troy held on for a 25-20 set two win to go up 2-0 in the match.

Set three was tied early at 2-2 and 5-5 and a block by Kelly Leonardo and Taylor Horton gave the `Dogs their first and only lead of the match at 6-5.

USC however, took control and went up 17-10 to force a Fresno State timeout.

USC finished the set and the match by a score of 25-13.

Fresno State was led by sophomore Baylee Platt with eight kills and 10 digs. Allanah Munson had 14 assists for the `Dogs.

"USC is a better team and they played well tonight but they taught us some good lessons," said head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell. "In set two, sticking with them and getting some runs was pretty impressive. It's just tough to come back from a tough loss and re-gain our spirit for the most part I think we did that."

USC was led by Alex Jupiter with 17 kills.
